that’s not my expertise at all. however, you can go to barnes&nobles or borders or other book stores and find it there. i read about it one time in stores, so i know that you’ll be able to get it.

I’m sure I’ll leave a lot out, but here’s some info. There’s really way too many kinds to try to list, but I’ll give it a go

Red wines: Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Shiraz (aka Syrah or Sirah), Red Zinfindel, Malbec, Temperanillo, Bordeaux, Chianti, Burgundy

White wines: Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Grigio, Riesling, Gewurtztraminer, White Zinfindel, Moscato, Torrentes, Chablis

There are also Blush wines, which are a combination of red and white grapes.

I’m sure there are a lot more that I just couldn’t think of, but I’ll come back and add them as I remember them. All wine is made of grapes. If it’s any other fruit, it might be called wine, but it’s not technically wine.

Red wine & white wine are the major types. Some might include rose or blush wines, but those wines are in the minority. Styles such as Champagne are either white or rose with the occasional red.

White wine is made from green grapes, although there are some Champagnes that are made from red grapes (blanc de noir). In this style the skins are removed before they colour the wine. A Rose will leave the skins in longer to give a pink colour to the wine.

Red wine is made from red grapes. The skins are left in which then colour the wine.

Major red grapes are: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Shiraz (Syrah), Carmenere, Malbec, Zinfandel & Pinot Noir. There are many other types as well but these are the big ones or at least the signature grapes from many different regions.

Major white grapes are: Chardonnay, Pinot Gris (Pinot Grigio), Reisling, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillion, Viognier, Chenin Blanc & Gewurztraminer. Again, there are many different types not listed here but like the red grapes shown above, these are the heavy hitters or signature grapes.

Rose wine grapes: typically you’ll find Zinfandel, Shiraz & Cabernet Sauvignon being the principle types.

As for how they taste, well there’s no real guideline or style that differentiates one style from the other. Some reds are light and fruity, others are heavy and dry. Same can be said for whites although typically they’re not as heavy as reds. Rose or "blush" wines are however pretty light, fruity and possibly sweet. A lot of these wines are referred to as "kool-aid" and not taken seriously as the people that drink them are usually the type that don’t really like wine to begin with.

My suggestion to you is to pick up a few books, or do some research online to find out more about wines, grapes and what kinds go with what. If you’re new to wine, start out with the whites and roses as they’re usually the easiest drinking. Eventually you’ll move onto the reds and that’s where the fun really begins.
