A list of wines that I must taste?

Published by admin at 5:12 pm under types wines

I want like a basic listing of 6 to 10 different types of wines that you think I must try since I'm just getting into this hobby. Possibly ordering info too if available. Thanks.
Keep them coming people I may fill a wine rack yet!!

The best thing is try a wide range of wines, taste everything and you'll start to fin dout what you like, but the more you taste you'll find your tastes change so don't buy large amounts of any one.

The easiest and cheapest way to taste many wines is to join a tasting group. Ask at your local fine wine store. They may organise tastings and know about local tasting clubs.

Wine is supposed to be enjoyable, so don't bash yourself. There is nothing you 'must' taste — certainly not at the beginning.

Enjoy

Oh, you should definitely try this wine. It's called Martin & Weyrich Moscato Allegro. It's a dessert wine. It's sweet, but not too sweet. A bottle of that wine goes fast when it's around me!

There's an Orvieto Classico made by Ruffino in Italy that is a nice light white wine, semi-sweet, and it goes well with fish and pastas with cream sauces, but I prefer it with Tomato sauces because it actually articulates a very pleasant flavour with a tomato sauce.

Merlot, probably the most basic of red wines.

Logan Chardonnay, Byron Chardonnay, Cakebreak and Sonoma-Cutrer Chardonnays are my favorites. Smooth.
Ravenswood Zinfandel is awesome. (NOT WHITE ZIN)
Ch. Montelena and Beringer make pretty good Cabernets.
I think most Merlots are not that great, just my opinion. Enjoy! Some reds are better served with certain foods or cheeses. Brings out the flavors in the wine.

You may consider selecting a region to focus on and move from there. For example you have older markets like Spain, France and Italy. Then there are newer markets like Argentina, Australia, California, Oregon and Washington.

Next focus on if you have a preference for red or white wine.

One other consideration is the activity you will be egaged in while drinking the wine. Will you be dining and looking for a good wine pairing? Or are you just sipping hanging with friends? There are wines that are meant for either occasion.

As noted above, the most important thing is just to have fun with it, and trust your own taste.
