wine tasting menu ideas

Which of these restaurants should I take her too?
We’re friends but not close. We go out for dinners, but always in a group. I’ve managed to ask her to dinner alone. It shouldn’t be considered a date, though we’re both single. I want to get to know her more, and vice versa. She enjoys fine food, so we’re both excited over a nice dinner. What kind of restaurant should I take her to?
1. Restaurant with a tasting menu – Chef prepares 5 courses up to his discretion, so it’s a surprise. Focus is on food, not atmosphere.
2. Restaurant downtown on top of one of the office towers…great view, food and atmosphere, could be considered romantic, which I am not sure if it’s a good idea or not.
3. A French restaurant with wine pairing. So a place with about 8 dishes which we’ll split, and the Sommelier would help us pair the dishes with some nice wines.
Also, normally with friends, we split the tab. But in this case, since I am interested in a friend…should I pick up the bill?
I would say number one. The surprise element will add dimension to your conversation, should it lag. Although you might want to check the news before you leave just to make sure you have enough things to talk about. Sometimes a random story can lead to really fun conversations. Keep it light. Also stay away from too much alcohol. A glass of wine or two is ok… but if I’m on a date and a guy keeps offering me alcohol I tend to get suspicious. And you should ALWAYS offer to pay. ALWAYS. I get really ticked off when a guy doesn’t offer. If she tries to pay, offer again. Or jokingly tell her she isn’t allowed to pay. If you invited her, then you should pay. Bottom line.
